Our Commitment to Privacy
At ShelfList, we believe your privacy is a fundamental right. We've designed our app from the ground up to ensure that your personal information stays exactly where it belongs: with you.
Data Collection
We collect ZERO data.
ShelfList does not collect, transmit, or store any of your personal information on our servers. In fact, we don't even have servers to collect your data. The app is designed to work 100% offline, and all your data is stored locally on your device using SQLite database.
What This Means:
- No account creation or login required
- No email addresses collected
- No phone numbers collected
- No location tracking
- No usage analytics or telemetry
- No crash reporting or error logging to external servers
- No advertising IDs or device identifiers collected
- No cookies or tracking technologies
How Your Data is Stored
All data you create in ShelfList (grocery lists, pantry items, etc.) is stored exclusively on your device using SQLite, a local database system. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to back it up using your device's built-in backup features (such as iCloud for iOS or Google Drive for Android).
Data You Create:
- Grocery Lists: Names and items you add to your shopping lists
- Pantry Items: Items and quantities you track in your pantry
- Preferences: App settings and customizations
All of this data is stored locally and is never transmitted to us or any third party.
Third-Party Services
ShelfList does not integrate with any third-party services, analytics platforms, advertising networks, or tracking tools. We use only the essential libraries required for the app to function:
- React Native: The framework for building the mobile app
- React Navigation: For in-app navigation
- SQLite: For local data storage on your device
None of these libraries transmit your data to external servers.
Internet Connectivity
ShelfList does not require an internet connection to function. The app works completely offline, and it does not make any network requests. You can verify this by:
- Enabling airplane mode on your device
- Using the app normally
- Observing that all features work without any internet connection
Data Security
Since all your data is stored locally on your device, the security of your data depends on your device's security measures. We recommend:
- Using a strong device passcode or biometric authentication
- Keeping your device's operating system up to date
- Using your device's built-in backup features if you want to preserve your data
Children's Privacy
ShelfList does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. The app is safe for users of all ages.
Data Deletion
Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have complete control over your data. You can delete your data at any time by:
- Deleting individual lists or items within the app
- Uninstalling the app from your device (this will delete all app data)
- Clearing the app's data through your device settings
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
Open Source
ShelfList is committed to transparency. You can verify our privacy claims by reviewing the app's source code, which demonstrates that no network requests are made and no data is transmitted externally.

Your Rights
Because we don't collect any of your data, there's no data for us to access, modify, or delete. You have complete ownership and control over all data created in the app, as it resides solely on your device.
Summary: ShelfList collects zero data, makes zero network requests, and respects your privacy completely. Your grocery lists are yours alone.
